Intensive Korean Language program

Overview

Intensive Korean Language Program is the main program offered by the Hallym University Korean Language Education Center. It's designed to help international learners build strong Korean communication skills in all areas.

The course is open to foreigners and overseas Koreans living in Korea, with each class typically made up of 15 to 20 students.

Each semester runs for 10 weeks, with classes held Monday through Friday for 4 hours a day — adding up to around 200 hours per semester.

Aims and Content of Each Course

LEVEL		Aims and Content
Beginner	Level 1	The student can read and write Hangul. Language skills for everyday life including greeting and introducing themselves, using public transportation and making phone calls.
Beginner	Level 2	Students will learn to correctly pronounce individual sounds and phonological rules of Korean in sentences. The student will learn about basic elements of Korean culture and daily life. Students gain Korean language skills for travel, household chores, and more.
Intermediate	Level 3	Enhance students' communication skills to a level that enables them to navigate everyday life in Korea. Have students practice expressing themselves through 3-minute stories, role-plays. Students express ideas and improve grammar through direct speech and writing.
Intermediate	Level 4	Expand students vocabulary to better understand the Korean mindset and culture. E.G: You can understand 정체성(正體性) (hanja vocabulary). Students can write about topics like everyday life, not just conversations. Students will read texts to learn about Korean society and culture.
Advanced	Level 5	Students will gain an understanding of Korean values reflected in language, education, pop culture, and more. Students will use expressive language to convey emotions and feelings while sharing information. Understand and express opinions about discourse in the humanities, social sciences, sciences, and the arts.
Advanced	Level 6	Students will understand Korean texts related to their major, such as textbooks and news articles. Students will be able to effectively use Korean grammar for complex and specialized tasks. Students describe information in Korean.

In addition, the program is paired with a cultural class, giving students valuable insight into Korean culture and deepening their overall understanding of the language.
